Abstract
The protective actions of thiol compounds on HOCI-induced degradation of hyaluronic acid were investigated. HOCI decreased the viscosity of hyaluronic acid in a dose dependent fashion., HOCI-induced degradation of hyaluronic acid was markedly inhibited¢¥ by GSH, MPG, cysteine, DMSO, DABCO and histidine but not affected by SOD, catalase, sodium formate and sodium benzoate. Thiol compounds are sensitively oxidized by HOCI. GSH, MPG, DMSO and DABCO significantly decomposed HOCI. HOCI-induced oxidation of DPBF was inhibited by GSH, MPG, cysteine, DMSO and DABCO but not affected by sodium formate and sodium benzoate. These results suggest that thiol compounds may prevent. HOCI-induced degradation of hyaluronic acid by oxidation of
SH groups and scavenging action on HOCI and probably, ¢¥0,.
